Georgia Peanut Farm Show

Thursday, January 15th will bring the 33rd Georgia Peanut Farm Show. Doors open at 8:30 and this year the program will include a seed seminar and a new award, the Young Peanut Farmer of the Year. I encourage all who grow peanuts and those involved int he industry to be there. We have almost $40,000 in door prizes and as always lunch will be served.

Peanutty Stuff

Peanuts are high in mono-unsaturated fat which is the good heart healthy fat. They also have folate which is critical in the diet for women of childbearing age and who are pregnant. Folate also has been linked to other benefits in the body. Peanuts have a bit or resveratrol and every little bit helps. And, they are good for people with Adult Onset Diabetes.
Georgia produces about 45% of the US peanut crop. Runner peanuts are the dominant peanut variety and go in to candy, salted nuts, peanut butter, peanut oil and more.
Dr. Georgia Washington Carver developed more than 300 uses for peanuts, most of which were non-food uses. He was an orchid breeder before arriving at Tuskeegee Institute.
The Extra Terrestrial's (ET) favorite snack was Reese's Pieces. It has been reported that M&M Mars turned down the offer for M&M's.
